The Convenience of Door Closers

Door closers are mechanisms installed to close the door after someone opened it manually or automatically. These mechanisms are usually installed in main entrances of businesses, hotels, condominiums, malls, and other public buildings.

Door closers have many benefits, such as:

· In case of fire, the door shuts automatically after the occupants leave the premises to contain the spread of smoke.

· In busy areas like groceries, door closer allows the door to remain open for a preset time before closing at an adjusted speed. This system allows physically challenged and the elderly to get through the door before it closes.

There are two main types of door closers. One is manual while the other is automatic. Manual door closers shut the door after it is opened by hand. It has two main forms, and they are overhead door closers and jamb-mounted closers.

Jamb-mounted closers fit between doors and the frame. They cannot be seen when the door is closed. They utilize hydraulic dampers to limit the speed by which the door closes, and so the timing can be adjusted.

Automatic door closers, on the other hand, are also called door openers. The door is opened automatically with a push button, motion detector and other devices. Then it closes when the motion or proximity sensor determines it is safe to close the door.

There are several things to consider when installing door closers. Aside from the Fire Authority requirements, door closers must also comply with the Americans with Disabilities Standards, requiring accommodation for physically challenged.
