Furniture Locks Foster Child Safety
Every year, more than two million children are either injured or killed by accidents in their own homes. Some are from accidental poisoning, others from wounding or scalding themselves. Although these accidents cannot be totally eliminated, they can be prevented by taking precautionary measures and installing safety devices at home.
Our cabinets and drawers usually contain all types of stuff. Hazardous substances like detergent and cleaning fluids that should be kept out of children’s reach are stored in the cupboard. The kitchen cabinets hold cooking utensils, knives and other cooking paraphernalia. Drawers contain pens, paper, scissors and other supplies like paper clips and staple wires.
How can we prevent our children from having access to these hazards? The best solution is to install locks and latches to our furniture and cabinet doors and drawers.
There are locks and latches made purposely for furniture. These are: 1) adhesive locks which are installed through double sided tape stick to the cabinets and drawers; and 2) screw fixed which may take sometime to install but are lasting and more durable.
In looking for furniture locks and latches, always remember to invest in good ones and choose something that can endure children’s tugs and pulls. They may not be a guarantee of protection but children will be restricted from having access to dangerous elements.
